What is the Political Courage Test?

North Carolina Congressional Election 2022 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I am personally pro-life, but I stand on the constitution that any power not given to the federal government should be given to the states, so I would choose to leave it in the state's hands. If I had to vote, I would have to vote my convictions, but I would make sure to include exceptions about the woman's life. I would make sure conditions like ectopic pregnancy were written in as exceptions; there are other more conditions similar to that problem that I would consult an OB specialist to make sure it is written to protect the mother's life.
Unknown Position Do you support expanding federal funding to support social safety net programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
Expanded federal funding is what has driven the high inflation rates we are experiencing, and the same elderly population who need social security and medicare have fixed incomes, and inflation is causing them the most harm. I will protect their social security and medicare by making sure we have a balanced budget. I will also reform the medicare system to promote quality healthcare. Right now nursing homes have low staffing and low quality. I want every one of my constituents to have thriving and abundant lives, and that starts with good health.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations, unions, and individuals?
The current US Senate race in NC has around $30million dollars invested apart from separate super PAC money. The amount of waste on money in politics is disgusting, and I am for reforming FEC campaign laws to make sure the people electing their officials are the ones with the most voice in who wins the race. Most races are won with money coming in from outside the districts and states, and politics have become a big business, when it should be a public service.
Unknown Position Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
This is too vague a question. I want to support law enforcement in enforcing the law. Any person, no matter their career choice, can break the law. I want every person to be held accountable to do their job with professionalism.
Unknown Position Do you support increasing defense spending?
I support the current spending on military. I do not support sending money overseas when it is not protecting Americans. American taxpayer dollars should go to defending the freedoms in the constitutions and keeping Americans safe. Outside of taxpayer dollars, I personally support nonprofits assisting all types of needs internationally. International spending should be directly related to help the safety or economy of America, as that is the job of the American government. We need a strong military. We need strong leadership. That is the job of the federal government. They have given themselves extra jobs.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Unknown Position Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
No Do you support the federal government taking action, beyond those of the Federal Reserve, to alleviate inflation?
The stimulus checks were given out like candy. Both the previous administration did this, and the current administration did this without any application process. Tons of people received checks they didn't need, while others were hurting. We need people in office who protect the vulnerable while spending prudently. I support helping businesses in times of crisis, but there needs to be a plan on how to replace those funds. Congress needs to balance a budget that is working to lower the debt. This should be their number one priority in stopping inflation. Prices aren't going to come down.
No Do you support the forgiveness of federal student loan debt?
I paid off my school loans by living with my parents and working full-time after college. We are not teaching our young people fiscal responsibility when we say, hey you bought something, but now you don't have to pay for it. This is a slippery slope to further debt that will end in bankruptcy. The problem is colleges are charging outrageous amounts for tuition. In my opinion, they charge it because they know the federal government will pay it. If the federal government is to be involved in post-high school education, it should be in trades to train the workforce.
Yes Do you support requiring a government-issued identification in order to vote at the polls?
All election law needs to be handled at the state level. This is not a subject that should be legislated at the federal level. That is overreach of the federal government.
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Unknown Position Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
The federal government needs to give transparent information to the People about greenhouse gases, and Congress should incentivize green energy. The the recent $500Billion spent by Congress is killing the lower and middle class families financially. There are things locally that can and should be regulated to maintain the health of people living in each area of the country. The federal government needs to prioritize energy independence, incentivizing green energy, de-incentivizing or taxing carbon based energy with those taxes going toward lowering the national debt, and balancing a budget.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Gun control at the federal level goes directly against the constitution. Local municipalities that have strict gun laws have higher crime rates. Criminals will get guns illegally. The second amendment is very clear that the right to bear arms should not be infringed to secure a free State. The point of the 2A is additional check on government power. I stand on decreasing the power of the federal government, and increasing the Power of the people. I would like to address the recent violence with financially supporting law enforcement and funding mental health initiatives in preventative, acute, and chronic healthcare.
No Do you support a government-run (single-payer) healthcare program, such as Medicare-for-All?
Unknown Position Do you support expanding paid family AND/OR medical leave opportunities?
Unknown Position Do you support lowering the cost of prescription drugs?
As a nurse I see how much hospital administrators make decisions based on money rather than quality patient care. I would like to advocate for quality and giving more control to doctors to prescribe what patients need. Right now the qualifications for medicaid have a cap on income, and we have to stop de-incentivizing work, so I would change the qualifications to make sure working people have coverage. I would like to encourage expanding the model of "rural health groups" that specialize in giving quality healthcare and preventative care to low-income/self pay and medicaid patients with fiscal responsibility.
Yes Do you support increasing security along the southern US border?
Unknown Position Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
I want to secure the southern border to stop drug and human trafficking. We have laws that are not being enforced. As far as immigration policy, I support those who are here illegally that are working to give allowance for employers to be able to sponsor them to have residency with legal paperwork. If someone is here illegally and they are found breaking laws, that would require for them to go back to their home country.
Yes Do you support economic intervention as a means of resolving international conflicts?
Unknown Position Do you support the U.S. providing increased offensive military aid to Ukraine?
I support all efforts at the federal level to avoid military conflict that affects Americans (safety and economy). As far as aid to Ukraine, I have not heard any updates on where the money that was sent went. One of the top problems I see at the federal level is lack of congressional oversight of money spending. If elected, I would go to the border, go to Ukraine, and go to Taiwan to talk with the people of these areas to find out what has been done and what the impact American intervention has accomplished before spending any more money.
No Do you support raising taxes, on any income or on any entity, to promote economic growth?
Raising taxes historically has very clearly negatively impacted the economy. Economic growth is always seen in lowering taxes. It increases paychecks and increases the job market.
No Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
No. I support pushing for manufacturing and business to be in America. We saw during the pandemic how harmful it is to be dependent on other countries for essential supplies. Right now 90% of our pharmaceuticals are made in China. Congress needs to decrease regulation and incentivize moving as much industry as possible to be within America. This is a national security issue.
No additional funding: 1. Stop executive orders. It doesn't matter if Trump or Biden is in office, no one person should be able to make and enforce law. 2. Balance and establish a budget that decreases the federal debt. 3. Reform medicaid/medicare/VA healthcare regulation to include quality measures, coverage for working Americans, more choice and independence in medical decisions. 4. Education- see website; if my idea was pushed through, we would spend less on education while teachers would be paid more, have smaller class sizes, decreased regulation, successful benchmarks with tailored education for each child, and parent choice in education.
